Resolutions for 2011

When I was young, I made sure to write out a list of New Year’s resolutions. I found that it was a good time to think about the fu- ture and what needed to be done that year to move my plans forward. Sometimes it was as simple as resolv- ing to get an A in English. Sometimes it was very serious, like listing character qualities to look for in a husband. I have not continued this practice as an adult. God has blessed me with a wonderful husband and busy family and each day brings a need for resolutions! However, as I pondered the year ahead as Political Direc- tor of Oregon Right to Life, it seemed appropriate to make a list of pro-life resolutions.

Last year, we witnessed a political movement that awakened many in Oregon and across the nation to the importance of engaging in our civil government. There is not a national or statewide election this year, but this does not mean it is time to rest. It is important to continue engaging in our communities and continue our efforts to educate our neighbors about the importance of protecting human life in all its stages.

Therefore, here are my suggested pro-life resolutions for 2011:

  1. Sign up to be a Life Team Coordinator and receive an idea each month for a simple pro-life project in your church or neighborhood.
  2. Attend a pro-life event. Opportunities include Right to Life chapter activities, pregnancy resource center events, prayer vigils, and many others. You can find something enjoyable and worthwhile and you will encourage those who have been laboring for years in your community.
  3. Attend the Oregon Right to Life Conference. Workshops, outstand- ing speakers and wonderful fellowship make for a great day. Bring a friend with you.
  4. Contact your state representative and senator concerning life issues. The Oregon Legislature is in session and now is a critical time to write your legislators about pro-life bills and issues. Stay informed about legislative news by checking the Oregon Right to Life website, our Facebook page, or contact us by phone or email.
  5. Express your convictions in writing. We live in a time of mass com- munication. While it can be overwhelming, many have favorite sources of information. When you read an article or a post that concerns life issues, respond with your own comment. Many times the pro-life perspective is not represented.
