My passion is finding and helping pro-lifers who want to run for office and inspiring pro-lifers to vote pro-life. So if you’re interested in how to get political, or just looking for information you won’t find anywhere else, be sure to check out our Political Action section. The foundation for passing pro-life laws is for pro-lifers to take an active part in the election process.

About Oregon Right to Life PAC

Salem Capitol Building

Oregon Right to Life has both a Candidate Political Action Committee (PAC) and an Issues PAC.  The Candidate PAC works to support pro-life candidate for state and federal office.  The Issues PAC works to support or oppose ballot measures.

Oregon Right to Life Candidate PAC is one of the largest political action committees in the state.  The ORTL Candidate PAC was organized in 1979 and has continued to grow in political awareness and political power while maintaining its integrity and increasing its respectability.

Pro-life candidates are identified by the Candidate PAC’s Board of Directors though background research, questionnaires and personal interviews.  Pro-life candidates are supported through a combination of organized grassroots efforts, financial contributions, and educational materials like the pro-life voter guide.

Certain congressional, statewide, legislative and/or local races are targeted when the PAC determines that its focused efforts may provide the margin of victory for a pro-life candidate facing a tough challenge from a pro-abortion candidate.  The process of targeting races allows Oregon Right to Life and grassroots pro-lifers around the state to focus our resources on the most crucial races.  This strategy has led to many successes.

In the general election of 2004, 46 of our endorsed and recommended candidates were victorious.

To support the ORTL Candidate PAC, pro-life Oregonians who file state income taxes may use Oregon’s political tax credit. The tax credit and a tremendous volunteer network have made the Candidate PAC one of the most effective political organizations in the state.

The ORTL Candidate PAC is governed by a Board of Directors and is staffed by Political Director, Lois Anderson and Assistant, Michelle Knopp.

Oregon Right to Life Issues Political Action Committee was formed to protect lives threatened by abortion, infanticide and euthanasia by passing pro-life ballot measures and defeating anti-life ballot measures.

Having a strong Issues PAC keeps ORTL ready to oppose anti-life ballot measures, and support pro-life measures such as Measure 51 – the repeal of the physician-assisted suicide law. ORTL Issues PAC also helps identify pro-life voters and encourage pro-lifers to vote on Election Day.

Pro-life Oregonians who file state income taxes may also use Oregon’s political tax credit to support the Issues PAC.
